Policy and Advocacy
SoCal CAN facilitates opportunities for member organizations to lend their collective voice to issues impacting the educational aspirations of low-income, first generation students. We have joined the Campaign for College Opportunity (CCO) and Communities for Education Equity in their respective efforts to influence local and statewide policies.
Moving forward we envision three levels of engagement for SoCal CAN’s advocacy work:
- Empowering our 25,000 students and families to engage in advocacy work at the local and state levels;
- Lending SoCal CAN’s support to existing advocacy efforts, particularly those of CCO and CEE, and;
- Exploring the possibility of taking the lead on a specific policy issue that is not currently being addressed.
