Peer Ambassador Program

Our Peer Ambassadors Program trains 9th and 10th grade students to become “peer ambassadors” by encouraging college-going on their campuses. With leadership and college-advising training, peer ambassadors take the lead in developing school-based programs and activities that encourage other students to turn their college dreams into action-oriented goals. They market their message with KnowHow2GO materials, a national campaign encouraging students to prepare for college using four simple steps: Be a Pain, Push Yourself, Find the Right Fit, and Get Your Hands on Some Cash.

To qualify and participate in the program, nominated students must attend a 2-day leadership and college-advising training where they develop a plan to promote college-going at their respective campuses. At the training, recent college graduates and college access professionals are on hand to assist students in this development process.

Once on campus, peer ambassadors implement their campaign by starting a club at school, hosting workshops, and developing a “college-going” strategy with their school counseling staff. With year-round support from SoCal CAN, peer ambassadors convene during the summer for a 1-day retreat to celebrate their successes, share their best practices and lessons learned.
